China Radio International expands Web offering

The President of China Radio International, Li Dan, told a news conference in Beijing yesterday that information is now available in 38 foreign languages, besides standard Chinese and four Chinese dialects, on CRI Online. “I am happy to tell you that CRI Online is now the Web site with the most text-languages and with the second most audio-languages on the Internet,” said Li. CRI broadcasts 290 hours of programmes daily in the same 43 languages. CRI online was launched on December 26, 1998.

The CRI English Website also shows an apparently revised shortwave frequency schedule effective from 28th December 2003. The downloadable Word version still has the summer schedule.

The 1100-1200 English language broadcast is not the standard one hour transmission heard at other times, but the hour-long daily feature “Real Time Beijing” that’s heard in and around Beijing and is intended for foreign English speaking listeners. This broadcast includes 45 min. of traditional Chinese music on Saturdays and Chinese pop music on Sundays.
    for details.
