China Central Television (CCTV) will stop broadcasting CCTV-9 (its 24-hour English language service) to North America via the Galaxy-3C satellite from January 1, 2008. Instead, audiences in North America can receive CCTV’s programmes through the Echostar Satellite LLC Dish Network platform in the United States or Rogers Cabke Communications in Canada respectively.

This is bad news! We enjoy watching CCTV-4, 9, E & F here in Québec, via the Galaxy-3C satellite, Ku band. With a 1m dish, I get a very good signal and image. Unfortunately, Rogers cable is distributed only in the rest of Canada, and the American Dish Network is prohibited in Canada. The only option is to buy a large C-band dish (12 feet) to receive CCTV on Intelsat 9 (58° W).

This is a real bad news. I enjoyed watching CCTV9 via Comcast in the San Francisco Bayarea especially travel section, history, dialog, and among other programs. The decision to change is real a bad decision which I don\’t understand why. I believe most audiences have cable not Dish. I hope someone within the Chinese authority should look into the switch. The purpose of the old setup is to let the world see how China changes, good or bad. Especially for overseas Chinese, CCTV9 probalby is the only meanway for them to see the progress.

The information in this article is incorrect. CCTV 9 has continued to provide Galaxy-3C satellite service to North America as of today (September 15,2009).

This month in May 2011, myself and also a friend can no longer received signals from Galaxy 3C for CCTV channels. Is there a major change with CCTV broadcasting? Wonder if a dedicated CCTV receiver and a registered viewer is required and necessary to continue to received the signals for home viewing. I was using a CNX mini receiver. Anyone would like to help me on this question? Thanks
