Broadcasting official says Russia may go digital “within 3 to 4 years”

The transition to digital TV and radio broadcasting in Russia may be completed within 3 to 4 years, instead of by 2015 as was initially planned, Svyatoslav Bunyaev, Deputy General Director of the federal company Russian Television and Radio Broadcasting Network (RTRBN), told reporters. He believes Russia has everything necessary for this, and only a few measures have yet to be implemented by the government in order to achieve this goal. At the same time, a range of problems hindering digital TV and radio broadcasting remain unsolved. Among them are radio frequency supply and changes in tariff policies in state-owned broadcasting.
