The latest news from beleagured radio station Big L, which normally broadcasts from a mediumwave transmitter at Trintelhaven in the Netherlands on 1395 kHz, is as follows according to the official website:
“The old generator cannot be repaired, so we send it on vacation. After all these years of hard working it ended for our ‘Green Genny’ under the Big L mast in Lake IJsselmeer. We will install a brand new generator! The Big L will soon return on 1395, that’s a promise!!”
The news is accompanied by the picture on the right, which appears to have been taken in the past few days according to the state of the ground and the tree, showing two people working on the generator.

In Nederland kennen we het station bijna niet. Het station doet er ook niets aan om zichzelf bekend te maken.
Dus zo erg is het niet dat de zender uit staat. Zoveel luisteraars heeft die AM zender niet neem ik aan.

Why are they not connected to the mains grid?

can they find a 100000/200000 euro for a new generator?

Hang on a minute, I thought the issue was one of a purely technical nature -i.e. the replacement of a transmitter?
It now transpires that the station is likely to be ‘taken over’ and the music format is to be altered to Country and Western. All this at a time when the new programme schedule had been announced including the return of Mike Reid and David Hamilton.
A conflict of interests here,surely?
