BBC London 94.9 appears on Sky EPG

BBC London 94.9, the BBC’s “local” radio service for London, has suddenly appeared on satellite via the BSkyB platform. It can be found on EPG channel 902, where it replaces BBC World Service Extra. It’s labelled “BBC Radio London”

It’s free to air and can be tuned in by anyone within the footprint of Astra 2D on 10.803 GHz Horizontal SR:22000 FEC:5/6. The station’s website now confirms “London listeners can now get BBC London 94.9 on Channel 902 on the Sky digital platform” while at the bottom of the same page it says “At the moment BBC London 94.9fm can not be received on sky digital, ntl, homechoice or freeview.” Obviously this is work in progress.

I can’t find any mention of satellite on BBC London’s http://www.bbc.co.uk/london website. Where exactly is this information?

Thanks - that worked. Now must do some digging to find out why they’ve gone up there in the first place!

And as quickly as it appeared, it has gone again! EPG902 now comes up “channel not available”
    Weird huh?

Well, I’m told it’s still on the EPG in the London area, as you might expect from the statement on the website. But it seems to have been organised in a hurry, and I’ve still seen no explanation of why BBC World Service Extra was discontinued.

Anyone can now receive BBC London on Sky Digital but outside the London area you have to use the Add channels facility rather than having it on the EPG. The BBC aren’t publicising this, wonder if they will do the same for other BBC local services.

Still available under the add channels feature here in NI. Just tuned it in a moment ago (26/10/05)
