Addis Ababa, 5 December: BBC and Ethiopian Radio and Television Agency (ERT) have established partnership that will see a range of BBC programmes broadcast on 97.1 FM in Addis Ababa and on the mediumwave frequencies of the National Service of Ethiopian Radio across the country.
Listeners can now have access to a range of BBC programmes on health, science, the environment, music and sports seven days a week, it was noted during the launching programme held here on Friday [5 December]. Speaking on the occasion, Head of the Africa and Middle East Region, BBC World Service, Jerry Timmins, said the partnership is a very exciting development for the BBC in Ethiopia. He said “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with Ethiopian Radio, and we are looking forward to developing a strong relationship with ERT and with audiences across the country.”
Deputy general manager of Ethiopian Radio and ERT, Solomon Tesfaye, on his part expressed happiness to have established this partnership with the BBC. Solomon said “Through re-broadcasting BBC programmes, we will be able to serve our audiences better. This partnership will enlarge our capacity to cater for the interests of listeners throughout Ethiopia.”
