The Bangladesh government has said it is considering liberalising radio broadcasting by allowing private companies to set up radio stations in the country. The New Nation quoted the Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Moudud Ahmed, as saying such a step could play a vital role in removing social problems and helping the country’s economic development.
Addressing a seminar in Dhaka, he asked: “If private TV channels can be allowed to operate, what is the problem with radio?” He also suggested that the liberalisation of radio and TV broadcasting could help reduce Bangladesh’s population growth.
