Arianespace to launch Japanese satellite JCSAT-13

Private Japanese satellite operator, SKY Perfect JSAT Corporation has chosen Arianespace, to launch its new JCSAT-13 communications satellite. The new contract is the seventh signed in 2009 by Arianespace with major satellite operators.

In a statement today, Arianespace chairman and chief executive officer, Jean-Yves Le Gal said the JCSAT-13 would be launched by an Arianespace 5 rocket in 2013 from French Guiana. “The JCSAT-13 contract is the 27th contract that Arianespace has won in Japan out of 36 open to competition,” he noted.

Built by Lockheed Martin Commercial Space Systems in Newtown, Pennsylvania, the JCSAT-13 weighs about 4,500 kilograms at launch and has a design life of 15 years. It will provide broadcasting and telecommunications services for Japan and the Asia Pacific region.
