The second Arabsat satellite of the fifth generation (5A), was launched successfully this morning from French Guyana by the Ariane–5 rocket . Arabsat 5A, manufactured by French companies Astrium and Thales, will operate fom an orbital position of 30.5 degrees East.
Khalid bin Ahmed Balkheyour, President & CEO of Arabsat, stated that “We are very thankful for the successful launch of 5A that will cover the whole African continent for the first time in addition to Arabsat’s usual coverage of the Middle East and large parts of Asia and Europe from Arabsat’s exclusive orbital position 30.5 degrees East, and will provide all communication services, satellite television broadcasting, telephone connections, Internet (broadband) services, VSAT and interactive services. Thus Arabsat has achieved great progress in serving our customers in the African continent and to compete in this promising African market.”
