Al Jazeera is calling on Egyptian authorities to stop government interference and allow the network to continue broadcasting events currently happening in the country, according to a press release by the international broadcaster. “We call upon the Egyptian authorities to uphold the right of the media to report news freely. There should be no impediments or restrictions in front of a free press,” Ayman Jaballah, Managing Director of Al Jazeera Mubasher said.
Al Jazeera has reported that their live channel Al Jazeera Mubasher was removed this morning from the Nilesat platform. This was after the channel was originally moved to different frequencies. The network’s Cairo bureau also had its telephone landlines cut, and its main Arabic news channel also faced signal interference.
Al Jazeera’s coverage of anti-government demonstrations has previously faced censure from regimes, most notably recently in Tunisia where the channel was banned by the former president.

This is a blatant curtailment of the freedom of the press by the Egyptian government. Why are they so afraid of having these anti-government demonstrations broadcast on air? This only proves the nefariousness of this government.
