Officials in the Ministry of Information and Culture of Afghanistan, following a new decree, have ordered all the female news anchors of Afghanistan to respect the Islamic dress code and avoid using thick makeup.
The statement which was also posted on the state news agency website, said all the news anchors and other programme anchors of private TV channels are requested to avoid presenting TV programmes without veils and using dense makeup.
Various private TV and radio stations have been set up in Afghanistan during the past 10 years and they employ predominately female presenters. The range of programmes broadcast includes Indian, Turkish, American and Iranian TV serials along with music, cooking programmes and special programmes for women and kids.
