Acting US FCC head wants shorter broadcast licences

The interim head of the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) said yesterday that broadcast licences for radio and television stations should be shortened from eight years to three years. “We still need to get serious about defining our license renewal process,” said FCC Acting Chairman Michael Copps at a summit sponsored by the Internet advocacy group Free Press. “Goodbye to postcard renewal every eight years. Hello to renewal every three years with public interest teeth,” Copps said.

Even the US tries to ruin the radio and tv business,
Why don’t they issue licenses for supermarkets etc. Much more vital and real cash cows.
