ABU admits 2 new members

The Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) has admitted two new members. They are full member Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) and Additional Full Member ASSET Radio Broadcasting of Sri Lanka.

A public television station, MRTV is a fully funded by the Myanmar government, and its coverage reaches the whole country. It has three channels: MRTV in Myanmar, MRTV-3 in English and MRTV-4, an educational channel in Myanmar which covers 96 percent of the country. MRTV also has a radio channel in Myanmar that includes English programmes and 14 indigenous languages programmes aired daily.

ASSET Radio Broadcasting (Pvt) Ltd is a private broadcast station. It began its commercial operations with the first Sinhala FM channel NETHFM in Sri Lanka in November 2005. Neth FM covers the Western Province on FM 95, Southern Province on FM 93.9, Uva on FM 105.9, Central Province on FM 100.4, and North Central Province on FM 105.4. The rest of the provinces are covered by its all-island frequency FM 105.9.

The objective is to use Neth FM to be “the first to inform and the best of entertainment” with the first 24 hours infotainment Sinhala Radio.
