PAUL’S ELECTRON
A radio serial in 24 parts, based on an original story by Nilton Valerio, English adaptation by Richard Wade

Paul is a young Dutch boy, living alone with his parents on a small farm somewhere to the North of Holland. His books and his inventiveness are his main source of companionship, but his lively mind and resourceful nature ensure that he is never at a loss for something to do - indeed, his long-suffering parents would probably agree that he is always getting into mischief. Right now he’s started a one-man radio station and by the most amazing chance, e meets an Electron.

Together, they set off on a journey for adventure and knowledge which takes them around the world and eventually into other space. During the course of his travels, Paul learns something about electrical energy and telecommunications, and cabbages, and kings, and why the world is full of problems. As his search intensifies for a greater understanding of the world he finds himself a part of, we begin to realise that he has in fact all the while been reaching out for friends and for contact with other people, until, at the very end, we ourselves understand that the ‘only’ child has all along been a ‘lonely’ child.

Paul and his fantastic adventures were originally created in Portuguese by the talented Brazilian writer Nilton Valerio, well-known for his work on radio, television and film, and adapted into English by Richard Wade, himself an experienced writer and broadcaster. We believe that this new, English, version bears the unmistakable quality and originality of both these imaginative and remarkable men.
Our almost all-Dutch cast was specially chosen to bring the little family to life with all the warmth and authenticity it so richly calls for. And, after a long search, we were finally able - in “The March of the Robots” - to match the talent of the cast with a signature tune which, we believe, completely captures the spirit of this lively tale. We’re convinced you’ll get as much pleasure from listening to this series as we’ve had in making it!
