NETHERLANDS CHAMBER MUSIC OF THE 20TH CENTURY
To vary the pattern of our regularly appearing series of Dutch orchestral works in the collection ‘Netherlands Composers’ Radio Nederland now presents a second series of Netherlands Chamber Music.
The series is intended to give a comprehensive picture of 20th century chamber music composed in The Netherlands.
The works have been chosen with a view to presenting the greatest possible variety in instrumentation and composing styles.
This means that the present series brings you works for piano, for solo violin and for voice, side by side with trios, string quartets, wind quintets and compositions for various other ensembles.
As to the composers behind these works, the series will be found to contain both compositions in moderate 20th century style and in the idiom developed by the avant-garde of Dutch music.
Since Willem Pijper is now generally considered as the founder of the art of composition as we know it in Holland today, his impressive output is represented in this series by seven works of different character. Compositions by members of the school he founded, including Guillaume Landré, Hans Henkemans, Oscar van Hemel and Kees van Baaren, have also been incorporated.
We hope that this series, like its predecessors, will contribute towards deepening the insight of music lovers everywhere in the repertoire of Holland’s 20th century music.
