Flashback In History. This episode Daybreak Of Freedom, pictures the Netherlands in the sixteenth century, a thriving country depending on commerce and industry, rather than on agriculture. Under the reign of Philip II, king of Spain and the Netherlands came an end to the fights and division between the many towns and regions. William the Silent, Prince of Orange, leads the uprising of the protestant Netherlands against the catholic Spanish occupants. The Spanish siege of the city of Leyden was one of the results, the end of which is dramatized here.
