Background: In Holland, to use public transport (subway, bus, or tram - not train), you use what’s called a “strippenkaart” - a long, narrow piece of paper with a certain number of “strips” printed on it. When you get on a bus/tram/whatever, you punch a certain number of strips, depending on how far you’re going. It’s fairly simple and very convenient that it works in all Dutch cities.
But now it’s being phased out in favor of electronic “chip” cards.
So. To advertise the start of the transition, the OV (transport authority) has an ad campaign.
Picture this: Chippendales at the train station. Handing out info pamphlets about the transition… and wearing t-shirts that say “I’m stopping stripping” on the front and, “From now on I’m chipping” (in Dutch, of course).
Hilarious! Right?
But, at least according to this article, it was getting a bit of a cold reception from commuters.
Ok, I guess it could be a little disappointing to see a stripper wearing a t-shirt. And I guess this might not appeal to the more manly half of the population. And maybe a stripper handing out pamphlets at 8am on your way to work is a little disconcerting.
But it’s hilarious! Chipping and stripping - the chippendales are the perfect wordplay / eye candy! I love it.
If only they had a schedule of where the chippendales were making their next appearance, I’d be there…!
