Who’s Dinie? That’s what a woman named Nieves wondered for years after finding a letter in a bottle that had washed up on the shores of her home in Cuba. Four decades after finding the letter from Dinie - all the way from Holland - Nieves decided to find out who Dinie really was.
The letter was thrown into the North Sea in 1966 during a Red Cross outing. Three years later Nieves found it on the beach in Cuba… and she’s kept it ever since. She always intended to write back to Dinie in the faraway Netherlands, but somehow never got around to it.
In the meantime, the 62-year-old letter writer had married and changed her surname. Radio Netherlands Worldwide offered to help Nieves, 74, in tracing Dinie - and we found her!
