Alone in Afghanistan.
Sounds pretty sad, huh?
But “alone” is what we are now… because Michel had to leave a little early.
Don’t worry, everything is ok with him and his family - it wasn’t that kind of situation.
It was actually more of a weather situation.
Let me explain.
Michel and I were scheduled to fly from here to Kandahar on Monday and then from Kandahar to the Netherlands on Wednesday. But the weather predictions aren’t so great for the next few days… which means there’s a chance the planes won’t be flying on Monday or even Tuesday… which means there’s a chance that we’d miss our flight from Kandahar back to the Netherlands.
We found this out at about 3pm yesterday.
The last confirmed flight out of TK left at 4:30pm.
So we had to make a decision - leave on an hour’s notice, or stay and risk having to stay another entire week.
Michel decided to go to Kandahar.
I decided to risk staying.
So now we’re each Alone in Afghanistan.
- Michel waving good-bye from the truck taking him out to the plane
- Michel's plane carrying him away to Kandahar
