Our “Host with the Most”, Captain Jørgen, took us on a driving tour of Kamp Holland the other day… and below is the audio of the tour and some photos that Michel took of the different stops we made.
Actually, he took a lot of the pictures on a second trip (the first time I was sitting up front to record… which meant that he was bouncing around the back of the jeep… and, as is always the case, whatever he was trying to shoot was on the opposite side of the car!). On his private tour, he stopped at an Afghan guard post, met couple of the ASG guys (Afghan Security Guards) and even shared a cup of tea with them!
(I worked hard not to seem too jealous when he got back all excited and full of stories!)
Hope you enjoy our tour as much as we did!

- A wall on the compound made of big bags contained by metal mesh and filled with sand and gravel. Also a beautiful view of the mountains in the background!
- The Trade Training School where Afghans will be able to learn trades such as carpentry.
- One of the Afghan "jingle trucks" - they paint them in bright colors and decorate them with bells and tassles.
- A member of the ANA (Afghan National Army) poses with his gun at the gate to the ANA compound.
- A lookout of the ANA.
- And another ANA lookout - this time with a guy standing inside.
- And again.
- Soldiers on the shooting range.
- The "Amnesty Box" - where any damaged ammunition can be deposited.
- Empty ammunition boxes at the shooting range.
- The burn pit - where all the trash from the camp is disposed of.
- A view of the entrance to the Baluchi Valley.
- A distant view of a "quala", which is an Afghan housing compound (a high wall surrounding the homes of one or often more families).
- A close up of the quala with the people sitting outside.
- And another quala.
