Since there aren’t that many women here in Kamp Holland, the bathroom facilities are shared between men and women.
I guess this isn’t a big deal.
And until today, I hadn’t actually run into a single person in the bathroom, male or female.
But.
Today I was in the stall and, as I opened the door to leave, directly infront of me was the back of a man… standing at the urinal! I quickly backed up and waited until he left.
Ok, I didn’t see anything. Ok, it’s not a big deal. But you must admit, it takes some getting used to!
And then, this evening, as I was brushing my teeth, a fellow walked in and started brushing his teeth too. Fine, no problem. But then, as I continued (I’m a pretty big fan of good oral hygiene), he finished and went over to the urinal to pee! Ok, I guess I should get used to it. But then, as I was flossing, he took off his shirt and washed (upper body only) in the sink! Eep!
It’s not that I’ve never seen a half naked man before. Even half naked men that I didn’t know very well. But that was at a pool. Or on the beach. Somewhere that I expect it. And not somewhere where people do things that most of us would consider private (bathing or otherwise).
I guess it wasn’t a big deal. But I’m sure he was laughing as I turned bright red and kept my eyes very much on the mirror ahead (I’m kinda regretting not taking even a peek to see if army guys really are as buff as we imagine them to be!)!
